2010
The Year of Biodiversity!
So what will be happening in the
Ashford Green Corridor in The Year of Biodiversity?
Well KSCP will be running a series of summer events for children and
adults that will look at the kind of biodiversity that can be found
in the AGC. Through a range of fun activities we will visit a number
of different types of habitats that can be found in the AGC to
discover and learn what biodiversity is and how important it is –
particularly in big towns like Ashford.
In order to maintain and enhance that
biodiversity, KSCP will be running some tasks in different locations
along the corridor:-
February 28th Sth Willesborough
- tree planting at Frog Orchard
April 14th Victoria
Park – River litter collection day and bird box installation
June 16th Little
Burton – Himalayan Balsam control
June 30th
Queen
Mothers
Park
– Himalayan Balsam control
We currently receive funding from Europe, called Interreg, through
participating in a bigger project with a range of conservation
organisations both here and in
France
. We learn from each
other about techniques of carrying out habitat management and how
the different organisations work with others to improve biodiversity
in their own areas. This funding also goes towards running the event
and tasks, but it is your participation that will make the project a
success. The future of Ashford’s biodiversity relies on us all
valuing its importance!
Looking after wildlife is important for biodiversity but also for
our own wellbeing. We work with volunteers, who enjoy getting out
into the fresh air and doing something practical to help the
environment.
